“Chicago”
Definition: Chicago is a golf game whose format is based on golfers beginning their rounds with negative points. In Chicago, players start with a negative amount of points, based on handicaps, then add positive points during the round. The idea is to get from the negative to the positive, clearing your "hurdle" (the term used for your starting total of negative points) by as much as possible.
Negative points begin at -39 for scratch golfers. A 1-handicapper starts with -38, a 2-handicapper with -37, and so on up to a 36-handicapper who starts with -3 points. During a nine hole round the negative hurdle is halved to -18.5.
During the round, positive points are added on this basis:
• Bogeys are worth l point
• Pars are worth 2 points
• Birdies are worth 4 points
• Eagles are worth 8 points
“Low Net”
Definition: A player's gross score minus the strokes his or her course handicap allows to be taken during the course of the round. A golfer may have a gross score of 92, but during the round was allowed to take 9 strokes. That player's net score is 83.
“Low Gross”
Definition: Gross score is, of course, every stroke a golfer has taken during a round, added up to a total score.
“Alternating Tees”
Definition: Low net or low gross scoring. Golfers play a different color tee box at each hole, from closest to furthest away. E.g. yellow, white, blue, black, yellow, white blue, black, yellow.
“Mulligan a Hole”
Definition: Low net or low gross scoring. Each player is granted one mulligan each hole. Use it on the tee box or save it for later at the putting green, it’s up to you.
“Beat the Pro”
Definition: Low net or low gross scoring, plus a bonus each hole you beat the gross score of the pro. Occasionally a bonus if you beat the net score of the Pro.
“2-Man Best Ball”
Definition: You will need a partner for this event. Each golfer plays a hole and the lowest of the two scores is recorded on a hole by hole basis. Only one line of the scorecard is needed. The two-some is treated as one person for calculating a low net or gross score. The two golfers handicaps will be averaged together.
“2-Man Scramble”
Definition: You will need a partner for this event. Each golfer plays a shot and the best shot is played after that. In this way hits are tallied for each hole. Only one line of the scorecard is needed. The two-some is treated as one person for calculating a low net or gross score. The two golfers handicaps will be averaged together.
“Club Championship”
Definition: The Club Championship is two days of play. The pairing is done by handicaps the first day and by first-day-finishing order for the second day. Players must play both days to be eligible for prizes.
Typically at Remuda you have all week to play the first 18 holes before Saturday. Who ever posts and turns in there score card before Saturday will be qualified for the last 18 holes. Tee times are scheduled in the morning, and you are grouped on how you scored the first 18 holes. Low Handicaps are playing for gross, and the high Handicaps are playing for net. The club champion will be the winner of low gross.
