Frequently Asked Questions.

Q. What tees do Association Members play?
A. Men play Blue Tees each week unless modified by a specific game. Sr. Men play White Tees each week unless modified by a specific game. Super Seniors over age 70 may play from whatever tee they choose. Women play gold tees each week unless modified by a specific game.  Couples Play white tees (women may choose to play white or gold tees.)

Q. Am I required to play every week?
A. No. Play as many, or as few events as you like. The more you play, the more participation points you can earn for year end Cup standings and raffle tickets.

Q. Are game fees due weekly?
A. Only if you play in the weekly game. You will need to pay the game fee and the optional side game fee in addition to your green fee (or punch card).
Q. Are separate memberships required if I want to play at both locations?
A. Yes. You will need to pay membership dues at each location if you want to participate at both locations. (No extra membership fee is required to play a different division at the same course. Such as a Sr. man playing in regular Men’s division and Sr. Men’s division.)

Q. Do I need to play with another member?
A. Yes, when you are competing you must play with at least one other member and have them verify and sign your scorecard.

Q. How are Winnings awarded?
A. Winnings are awarded to the top placeholders in each handicap flight as specified by the bylaws. winnings will be credited within 7 days to your individual shop credit account. Winnings are golf shop credits which may be redeemed at Remuda or Crane Field for golf, equipment, and food. Results are posted on our news blog each week. 100% of game fees are paid out each week.

Q. Is there a time limit for using winnings credits?
A. Yes, we would like you to use up your winnings by the end of the season in October. You can buy things in the shop or submit special orders. We have order forms on this site and we also have them at the clubhouse and available at the closing social. Winnings that are not used by the end of October shall be forfeited.

Q. What are your rules? Do you have bylaws?
Yes, the president keeps bylaws updated and is responsible for teaching and enforcing them. Each member is required to sign a waiver and abide by association bylaws and the presidents decisions. Copies are available at the clubhouse and upon request by email.

Q. Does your association have divisions and flights?
A. Yes, Remuda has a Men’s division, a Sr. Men’s division, a Women’s division, and Couples co-ed division. Within the weekly results we also divide players by flight as determined by their handicap. One to four flights is typical. These flights help spread out winnings and deliver fair results week to week for golfers of all abilities.

Q. Do I have to play in the 18 hole events?
A. No, like all of our events, nothing is mandatory. But you do accumulate participation points for both 9 and 18 hole events.

Q. How long is the season?
A. Play starts in March and each year (weather permitting) and continues weekly throughout the season. Each association has their own various weekly events on assigned days, and typically one monthly 18 hole event on a Saturday. There are various fun events to keep things interesting. Rules are always posted at the front desk for these events. You will always need to turn in a scorecard no matter what the event, signed and attested by another member of the association.

Q. Is there a schedule of events available?
A. Yes, the presidents sets up a schedule of events and posts it at the clubhouse, online, and makes copies for members to take home. So it’s important to read the calendar carefully. Link to Event Calendar

Handicap Questions.

Q. Do I need a UGA membership for my handicap index?

A. No, we keep our in in-house handicap indexes. They are used to calculate net scores on the majority of our tournament events. They are based off tournament rounds only, and are more accurate.

Q. Why did I not win any money even though I shot below my average score?
A.
Winnings are dependent on many factors including the performance of other players, the pool of players who participated that week, and the size of flights. If you beat your average score it is likely you will be in the winnings, but not guaranteed because there may be other players who also performed better than average.

Q. Can you give me more details about establishing an in house Handicap for new members?
A. Members with UGA handicaps may use their index to immediately establish a house handicap, but you do not have to be a UGA membership to play. If you do not have a UGA membership you simply need to play two 18 hole rounds (or two nine hole scores on each side) to establish an in-house index. Not difficult at all, and we do all the work entering your scores each week to keep your handicap accurate. Once established, your handicap is used for Low Net events and for determining flight divisions.

Q. Why have I suddenly changed flights without my handicap changing?

A. Flights are automatically generated by the computer system every week. Flight 1 contains the lowest handicaps, Flight 2 contains the next lowest, and so forth. As the individuals who play vary from week to week, this can result in a player being occasionally assigned to a flight they are not accustomed to playing.

Q. Do you use 9 or 18-hole handicaps in your Association?
A. As most of our association events are 9-hole events, our handicaps are kept as 9-hole handicaps. When we have 18-hole events, we double the handicaps.

Q. How do the Tees I play affect my handicap?

A. When using handicaps, the tees you play will not give you much of an advantage. The slopes for each Tee are used in the handicap calculation. If someone plays from forward tees and consistently shoots lower scores on average, a lower handicap will result, and level out the advantage.

Q. Why did my handicap go down even though I shot above my average score?

A. Handicap calculations are based upon the 10 most recent scores (minus the score that is still in process of being scored.) Every time a new score is entered the oldest score is dropped. Sometimes this results in handicap movement in the opposite direction of what is expected based only on the most recent score. Handicap calculation also drops high and low scores which helps prevent sandbagging.

Q. Does my handicap index reset at the beginning of each season?

A. No, we start with your previous year handicap. You do not start at zero unless you are a brand new player without any benchmark handicap index such as a UGA index or a handicap from another association.

Q. Can I have a copy of the Association Bylaws with handicap rules?
A. Yes, the most recent copy is posted online and in the Facebook Group page. You can also request a copy through the website contact-us page.  No handicap system is perfect, but we have researched many different software solutions and landed on the current in-house calculator. Rest assured it is evenly applied to all members in the association.
